IGEP plays a crucial role in certifying the Indian stone industry, particularly the granite sector. As one of the largest producers and exporters of granite, India’s stone industry is a significant generator of rural employment. However, allegations of child labor have threatened exports and related jobs.

To address these challenges, IGEP developed a strategy in collaboration with the Indian Monument Manufacturers’ Association (IMMA) and Germany-based Interessengemeinshaft Natursteine e.V (IGN).

IGEP’s audits cover the entire value chain of stone manufacturing, from quarrying to the final product, ensuring compliance with labor laws and the elimination of child labor.
Partnerships and MOU
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IMMA and IGN ensures that stones exported from India are free from child labor. IGEP’s unannounced inspections, conducted at least twice a year, maintain high standards and support the social welfare of disadvantaged communities.
